Doom Legacy is a port of the Doom source code, whose first version was released in 1998, just a few months after id Software made the original Doom code public. The goal of this port is to offer a gaming experience that is as faithful as possible to the original game, but adding small improvements that make it easier to enjoy on modern computers.
What you need to play
In order to run Doom Legacy, simply unzip the content of the compressed file in a folder and, inside that same folder, place a WAD file with game data. You can use the WAD file of Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, Ultimate Doom, Hexen, Heretic, or even FreeDoom. And that's it. As long as all the required files are inside the same folder, the game will work correctly.
Very subtle graphical improvements
Doom Legacy, as already mentioned, respects the essence of the original title. For that very reason, the game features many subtle graphical improvements that, while not drastically changing the look of the game, will make it look much better on modern computers. To begin with, you can opt for one of several modern resolutions. You can also play using OpenGL Mode. As an added bonus, you can play split screen with a friend on the same PC, both in deathmatch and co-op modes.
Multiplayer, the real star of the game
What the development team at Doom Legacy has focused on the most is the multiplayer. Here, up to 32 people can take part in huge deathmatches. And the best part? You have the option of several different skins. That's right, you will have several different colors for the Doom Guy at your disposal, but there are also a good handful of additional skins. The most fun part of all, thanks to the Deathmatch Ranking system, is that you and your friends can see your scores in real time.
Same old Doom, now better than ever
Download Doom Legacy and enjoy the classic Doom experience on modern computers in the best possible way. Thanks to this version of the game, which only requires a WAD file, you can enjoy the experience of the original title, but with a better resolution and other very interesting quality improvements. This title is essential for lovers of first-person shooters in general, and Doom in particular.
